This short video from The Honest Carpenter will show you how to make the fastest, easiest crosscuts possible with the circular saw, and very simple tools and techniques! Circular Saw Basics: EASIEST CROSSCUTS!! (6 Tips For Fastest, Easiest Circular Saw Crosscuts!) Circular saws intimidate new DIYers because they're a FREEHAND TOOL, meaning that they have no system of guides built in to keep them on track. To make very accurate circular saw crosscuts, I believe that you need a guide that is easy to use, and always at hand. I prefer to use the common SPEED SQUARE. By holding the speed square against the edge of a board, you can use it as a guide for the edge of the sole plate of your circular saw. I like to keep the bar of the speed square along the edge of the board nearest to methough some people hang the bar from the far edge. It's often a good idea to clamp your speed square before making your circular saw cut. Just be sure that the clamp is not in the way of the circular saw body. You can also use the speed square to make ANGLED CUTS with the circular saw! Just pivot the speed square at the corner until the correct angle number is aligned with the edge of the board. Then, use the edge of the speed square like normal as a guide for the edge of the circular saw sole plate. It's a good idea to clamp down your board as well to prevent movement or wandering. Just remember: CIRCULAR SAWS ARE DANGEROUS! This video is just a source of information. It's up to you to use tools safely! I enjoy your videos. I bet you could flip the speed square around with the lipped edge on the exit side of the cut to avoid the saw motor hitting the lip on deep cuts. The leading edge of the blade should break through the board just before the motor hits.

Over the last week I have bought circular saw, a Swanson speed square (and a Kreg RipCut for wider sections as I want straight cuts but I am definitely not a carpenter). I was just using the speed square yesterday and it is incredibly useful. I've also watched your 11 mistakes video and I'm sure it will help me keep my fingers attached!
